¡Hola! My name is Lakshmi Ramachandran and I am currently a junior in the School of Communication at Northwestern University majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders, with a double minor in Spanish and International Studies. I love being outside, blowing bubbles, painting and savoring moments. Originally from Troy, Michigan, I grew up dancing around my house, eating chapattis (an Indian flatbread), and singing with my younger sister in the car. While in the middle of suburbia, I did gymnastics for about 12 years, and have found that I can replicate the adrenaline rush I used to get while competing by packing up my suitcase and travelling. Whether it’s seeking fresh Italian pizza on the cobblestone streets surrounding the Trevi Fountain on a family vacation with 9 relatives or going for what felt like a roller-coaster ride as my host mom drove down the hairpin turns on the edge of the French Alps in Vallouise Valley, France, while on an international band program, I love devouring any type of international experience where I can immerse myself in the culture of another people. I know my learning curve in Bolivia will grow exponentially and I am unbelievably excited to pack up my life and get a taste of Cochabamba life through the eyes of its natives, while trying to positively benefit the community.
