A lifelong, self-proclaimed lover of learning, I am a senior student of philosophy, bioethics and global health. Feeling limited by the knowledge I can gain the classroom and through textbooks, I have longed to travel for the past year and a half. A clarification, though, when I say “travel,” I mean “immerse myself in other cultures and make myself a global citizen.” Verbose and somewhat trite, huh? By traveling to both India and France over the next six months, I want to expose myself to two different ways of thinking about healthcare – one vastly different from my own (India), and one that is foreign but familiar (France). Furthermore, as a philosophy major, I’m constantly thinking and asking myself “deep” questions about existence, purpose and our relationships with others. I’ve started asking these questions within the confines of Evanston and Chicago, and hope to come closer to answering them in the corners of Rajasthani and Parisian life. Follow me on my (thoughtful and introspective) adventure!

Yay, Steph!!! I’m so excited to follow your journey! It will be amazing.

This is just incredible! You are experiencing such amazing things. We probably won’t have the fire plate at an upcoming family holiday event though.
Love, AV

Wow! What a great experience. We are waiting for you to take all this learning from exotic parts of the world, and help us solve some of these same problems and challenges on our “own turf. India has a tradition of changing visitors over many centuries. You are just one of a long tradition of visitors who will gain a wide vision from your experience abroad. Continue to “soak it up” and we’ll look forward to hearing about you upcoming adventures. Keep up the good work!

Steph, I am so proud of all you are doing abroad. From your posts it sounds as if you’re learning a ton – and having a blast. I seriously admire everything you’re doing and working for. Cannot wait to talk to you about your experiences when we get back to school and swap travel tales. I’ll admit Oxford isn’t India or France, but WOW OH WOW. Your blog posts are insightful, clever, funny, inspiring, descriptive… everything a travel blog should be – but so much more powerful because they have that little “j’ne sais quoi” – a cup full of heart, a teaspoon of humour, and heap full of HONESTY. Keep it up babe!
